Welcome to the virtual living room of Totnes artist Julia Kelland.
Artist's Statement
My work is fresh and unpredictable, creating striking and vibrant paintings using mixed media. I transform ‘accidentals’ and realistic representations of wildlife, flowers, still life and landscape into unique and colourful images. This process lends each piece a life of its own. Inspired by regular courses at West Dean College, Sussex. I paint regularly in my studio in Totnes with friends and a group of exciting artists near Guildford and in South Wales.
I have had two very successful exhibitions in Totnes and was artist in residence at the Nant Y Coy Gallery in Pembrokeshire where visitors enjoyed my new work at an exhibition there. I exhibited at the Delamore Gallery in Cornwood in Devon and had a solo exhibition at the Flavel centre in Dartmouth. I have had five very successful exhibitions at my home during Devon Open Studios.
About Julia
I have been attending art courses regularly since the mid 1980's and originally painted exclusively in oils, and then went once a year to West Dene College in Sussex where I was introduced to mixed media.
I moved back to Devon in 2000 and have continued to attend regular workshops in Wales. I paint regularly in my studio and with a group of exciting artists near London.
